The success of Nintendo Wii has surprised the retailers and industry analysts. They say many senior citizens play videogames on a Wii to stay fit. On a contrary Wii availability for Nintendo seems to be a difficult task. US retailers are not able to keep enough Wiis on the shelves. Michael Pachter, a research analyst at Wedbush Morgan, says “clearly they failed to anticipate the demand that they got.”

It has been two years to Wii’s launch, still US customers can’t buy their Wii by walking in the store at one time. Wii availability is not a problem for online retailers like eBay. However a Wii on sites like Amazon and eBay are expensive. The original price of a Wii is $249.99. Other sites like Newegg sell out a Wii bundle for $500. Reporters say that since Nintendo has already achieved their goal for March so they are trying to create demand for second quarter sales.

Michael Pachter says pricing of a Nintendo Wii is wrong. Xbox 360 costs $400 and a PS3 costs $400, so there was no reason to keep a Wii price so low. I wish Nintendo never heard that. He says due to this reason Nintendo could not match supply with the demand.  He says that Wii availability would have been possible if Nintendo fixed one target. He says it was going to sell 14 million consoles a year then increased to 16 million finally ended with 19 million. Wow, I had no clue. However Michael you need to understand it is not that easy to set a target moreover especially when holidays are in.
